RV Adventure

A Two-Month Outlook Before Our RV Adventure

Life has been moving so fast lately. And even though I knew to expect this, expectations don’t always prepare you for reality. Even when I attempt to slow down a bit, my mind races with all the things I need to do during the next two months.

I spent months minimizing and slowly purging our home (and life) of extra stuff. Then I spent a couple weeks deep cleaning and staging our home before putting it on the market. Listing our house by owner resulted in a whirlwind of real estate agent calls and showings, which meant shuffling the kids in and out of our home multiple times a day while trying to keep the place in show-ready condition. But it was worth it, because we accepted an offer 48 hours after listing and are now under contract, which has triggered the finer details of inspections, appraisals, closing dates and the like.

So far, we’ve been checking off our RV countdown list without a hitch. And I’m praying that we make it to closing in mid-April without any hiccups.

So what are our plans once we officially sell our house?

We’ll move to my Grandma’s vacant house in Gainesville, Georgia, about a 1.5-hour drive from our current home. We’ll focus on stabilizing James’ new Spider Chalk business before life on the road. He’ll also prepare for his next Atlanta Affiliate League CrossFit competition in Atlanta the weekend of April 30 and May 1. During these first few weeks in Gainesville, I’ll be entertaining the kids and keeping the Rowdy boys as far away from Lake Lanier as possible, which happens to be just past my Grandma’s backyard.

And though I’m sure we’ll be looking at RVs hardcore in April, we will wait until May to make the purchase. Right now, the plan is to buy our RV from a dealership, and with warranties typically lasting one year, we need to buy our RV as close to our launch date as possible to make the most of the warranty. With this kind of timeline, we will hopefully hit the road in mid-May.

Now that we’re honing in on a launch date, I’m thinking we may need to head out West first to make the most of the summer season in Utah, Colorado and Montana. (After an initial stop in Panama City Beach, Florida, to visit my little nieces, of course.)

Until we officially close on our house and move temporarily to Gainesville, I’ll be spending the next few weeks packing up our house while making RV trip items easily accessible (wishful thinking?!).

And I’m also expecting the arrival of my first nephew any day now so these next two months before we hit the road will be wonderfully busy.
