If you need ideas for foods that are free from the top 8 most common allergies, try this list of allergy free convenience foods.

Two weeks ago, we started my son Beau on an Elimination Diet, which eliminates the top 8 most common allergens: wheat, dairy, soy, eggs, peanuts/tree nuts, fish/shellfish. After his recent Eosinophilic Esophagitis diagnosis, I knew an Elimination Diet was the next step, so I’ve been scouring the internet for tips recently.

As much as I love to cook and bake from scratch–and I frequently do–sometimes it’s nice to have go-to packaged food that I can feed him when I need to prep a quick meal, at the park for a picnic or as we’re having to head out of our house due to a last-minute showing.

    1. Thank you for sharing Cassidy! Yes, there are so many more specialty products now than when we started the journey in 2016. Best of luck to you and your son!

    2. Thank you … I will definitely try. My little one had a severe allergic reaction to coconut oil when he was 2 months. I used to use it at bath time. He was diagnosed with a cows milk and nut allergy in October 2021. Since he was only 6 months they only did a few test. He just turned 1 last week and I am having a hard time creating meals. Unfortunately, he breaks out in red hives whenever I try to give him Eggs, sweet potatoes, spinach. He did foot with butternut squash and avocado for a couple of days and then horrible Rasheed started emerging and I had irritated and hungry baby. Last week I did find nutritional drinks from Kate Farms and they at least fill him up. They’re dairy free, nut free, soy free, gluten free and non gmo. However, I want to find vegetables and quick healthy grabs. This is a start.

  1. I was told that coconut was also off-limits since it is a tree nut. Was there a reason behind his being allowed to have it? I’m just curious.

    1. It is classified as a tree nut by the FDA but most people allergic to tree nuts can safely eat coconut. My son’s nutritionist from a few years ago said it was ok for him to eat, and he’s had no issues with it so far. Coconuts lack many of the proteins that people with tree nut allergies are sensitive to. Hope that helps!

    2. We made the switch to oat milk- it’s the closest to actual milk, and seems to last forever. There is also ice cream and yogurts I’ve seen made with oat milk. Country crock also recently released plant based butter and whipping cream that I’ve cooked and baked with and it’s actually really good.
