This past weekend marked a first for me.
On Saturday, James Michael and I made an impromptu day trip to Gainesville to visit my parents and sister (who was visiting for the weekend). James was busy all day between the running gym and riding his motorcycle, so JM and I left right after breakfast in our pjs and planned to spend 6 hours soaking up the outdoors before heading to our friends’ house for a cookout late that afternoon.
Only on the drive to my parent’s house, it dawned on me that it might make more sense for JM to spend the night at their house, because my sister was planning on keeping him most of the day on Sunday so we could go house hunting. As soon as I showed up, my mom had the same idea.
A lump immediately developed in my throat, as this would be the first time he’d ever spent the night away from me. But with Baby #2 on the way and JM now 14.5 months old, it seemed like a good time to take the plunge. After all, I wasn’t leaving until 4 pm that afternoon and would have dropped him off at my sister’s first thing the next morning anyway.
Plus, I took peace of mind knowing he was only an hour away and had three doting family members to look after him. I managed to enjoy the cookout and actually didn’t worry at all that night, even though I was expecting to feel a little anxiety.
The little vacation was great for JM, as he played hard and slept well for them. I received the two cutest videos that made me smile and reminded me he was in great hands.
I think it will be quite a while before I’m ok with him being more than an hour’s drive away, but my sister lives only 30 minutes from me so I can see some fun sleepovers in her future!
