8 Kitchen Items that Last 10+ Years

A few days ago, I was thinking about some of the wedding gifts we received more than 10 years ago. Looking around my kitchen, I was amazed that several are still holding up so well after three moves, three kids (plus another baby any day now!) and so much use. We very rarely eat out for dinner—maybe 5 times a year—so our kitchen is well trafficked and well stocked. So I thought I’d share what kitchen items we own that have lasted more than 10 years that are still on the market today.

Cuisinart DCC-1200 Brew Central 12 Cup Programmable Coffeemaker

I love this coffee maker. It’s not the cheap $20 version that you feel will break if you touch it, but it’s also not so expensive that it’s out of your price range. We don’t use the programming function often just because we’re up early with kids, but it has come in handy for those random times each year when we have to leave the house before dawn because of vacation or a kid’s medical procedure.

I’m not even sure if we included these on our wedding registry, but I am so glad we received them. I am always cooking and baking—and often in bulk—so having varying size options for mixing bowls comes in handy. Also, the lids are wonderful to have for those days when I can prep half of a recipe in the morning such as dicing up veggies, then I just pop the lid on and put in the fridge until I can finish the meal that afternoon. Also, the non-skid bottom is also a great feature.

Before I got married, I had a cheap set of pots and pans that did the job but were very thin. Thankfully, a couple people pitched in together to get us a nice cookware set, which we are still using to this day. A good set of pots and pans makes all the difference in the world, especially for a family who cooks so much.

We didn’t register for this knife set, but received it anyhow and were never able to track down who gave it to us. It is hands down the best brand of knives we’ve ever used and I would say one of our top kitchen items that last. 10-plus years later and without any sharpening since most of the knives are serrated, and they have held up so well and we use them multiple times a day. I have used cheap knives that others own and sometimes feel like I’m going to slice my finger off. These knife sets can be a bit pricier but considering they last forever, they are totally worth it.

Emeril by All-Clad E96405 Pre-Seasoned Cast-Iron Skillet

Our cast iron skillet is another kitchen item that we use almost every day. We are breakfast people, so that means bacon or sausage (pork or chicken or turkey) nearly every single day. Our skillet has been through the wringer over the years, but after a good cleaning and re-seasoning, it works like a charm. Besides breakfast meats, we cook cornbread, skillet meals and sautee food such as chicken and salmon burgers.

My mom actually found a set of these at a yard sale years ago. We used them fairly often before having kids for things such as yogurt and granola or to hold fondue dipping sauces (back when fonduing wasn’t a safety issue!). But now that we have kids, we use them constantly. They are the perfect kid-sized portion for most any food, and the thick glass is practically unbreakable.

When I first discovered immersion blenders as a way to blend soups (such as my favorite Butternut Squash Soup), I was sold. It was much easier and safer than trying to fit a hand mixer into a pot of hot soup. But over the past decade, we’ve found numerous uses for our hand blender, from mixing protein shakes to a small batch of pancakes. This version may be the simplest immersion blender on the market, but that’s OK with me because it works well and has lasted 10 years with no issues.
