It’s been a week since I’ve eeked out a post, but life has been crazy around here. I was gone two days this week to Atlanta for EOE appointments for Beaudozer while my Dad generously watched my other two for a combination of 10+ hours. He recently retired, but has yet to have any downtime since the Hobsons moved into town.
This morning, the Rowdy boys had a front row seat to the tree cutting show. It was literally a jaw-dropping experience for them.
James is setting up to run his final Atlanta Affiliate League event this weekend–his last event before we hit the road. We’ll start RV shopping once his event winds down and he ties up lose ends.
Just a quick shout out to all you single parents out there. Thankfully, I’ve had the help of my parents, but parenting alone is a tough job and it’s taken all my energy to calm myself as I’m attempting to put the Rowdy boys to bed the past couple nights.
I digress. But in an effort to break the week-long silence, I’m sharing a few of my favorite things from the past week.
Cocowhip: I had originally purchased this for Beaudozer, who is on a strict Elimination Diet of the top 8 allergens (dairy, soy, eggs, peanuts, treenuts, wheat, fish, shellfish). But we recently discovered he is allergic to peas, and unfortunately this Cocowhip contains pea protein (so does a couple gluten-free flour blends I’ve found) so he couldn’t partake. That basically gave me and James the green light to consume it over the course of a couple nights. I would almost venture it’s better than ice cream. So so good!
T-Shirt Dress: Since last summer, I’ve minimized a lot of my clothing and restricted myself from buying much, too. I used to wear dresses all the time before kids, but you can imagine how awkward it is to nurse a baby wearing a dress. I’ve made that mistake a couple times at church on Sunday morning. But Scarlett just weaned a couple weeks ago and I was dying for a comfortable T-shirt dress. Old Navy had just what I was looking for and I snatched it up (along with a blue one) for just $16 during a promotion. It’s thicker than a normal t-shirt and the shape is great. Fitted but not tight.
Eye Cream: After back-to-back babies and four years of never getting a full night’s sleep, my eyes were really showing my exhaustion. Even now that Scarlett has been sleeping well the past 3 or 4 months, I still couldn’t get rid of my dark circles. This eye cream has been a life saver–and it’s amazing how much better my face looks when my eye area looks healthy.
Picnic Weather: My kids are all messy eaters at this stage, so eating outside lately has been wonderful. Less mess for me to clean up and of course it’s fun for them.
Water Table Time: A couple afternoons this past week, temperatures have reached mid to high 80s, making it the perfect time to bring out the water table. My kids love watering the plants with the water and then adding dirt to the water. This time they also discovered that pouring bubble liquid into the table made lots of soapy bubbles. But hey, messes are ok with any outside activity!
Caramel Almond Spread: I found this spread last fall at a Wal-mart and then this past week at a Kroger–but I managed to buy the last one. It is amazing and so hard to stop at just one or two spoonfuls. I’ve had a few scoops as dessert every night, but my jar is almost gone. I’ll be on the hunt soon for more! Luckily the website has a handy product finder.
$4.49 Red Table Wine: James and I visited a beautiful winery in Dahlonega, Georgia, last weekend, but none of the wines I tried from the tasting compared to the Trader Joe’s Green Fin Red Table Wine. Maybe I don’t have a refined palette, and I definitely don’t have much a tolerance, so one glass or half a glass is plenty for me. But this wine is so good and smooth with no bite at the end.
One Happy Mama Shirt: Most days, this shirt describes me. And then other days, such as when I’m parenting alone and the Rowdy boys are pushing every single one of my buttons, I simply look down at this shirt to remind me that life is really, really good–even on the bad days. I have a few shirts from Seriously Happy Tees and I love them all–not just the designs but the shirts themselves, so soft and great fits.
