30 week bump update

30 week bump

PREGNANCY WEEK: 30. T-minus 10 weeks! And if I could make a request of little Beau, an appearance around 38.5 to 39.5 weeks would be just fine by me.

GENDER: Baby boy Beau.

WEIGHT GAIN: 19 pounds as of 30 weeks. Will be interesting to see where I end up since I gained 27-28 pounds with James Michael. A month ago, I gained 5 pounds in four weeks, but this past month only two. Good news is there is no swelling yet.

CRAVINGS: Sweets are always good, pregnant or not. Besides that, it’s been Operation: Eat All Food in Fridge and Pantry around here, between leaving for vacation this weekend and moving at the first of June. Speaking of vacation, I’m ready for some amazing fresh seafood! I’m going to make this recipe for the fam with some fresh shrimp. I’ve heard great things about it and can’t wait to give it a try. Looks simple yet tasty.

MATERNITY CLOTHES: Definitely wearing mainly maternity clothes. When I don’t wear them, I just feel like the bump is neglected. For instance, when I wear a regular T-shirt, it doesn’t do me any favors because it’s hard to guess whether I’m pregnant or just have a beer belly 🙂 I’m all about fitted maternity clothes. I don’t really wear any that are A-line or billowy. But honestly, that’s also just my style when I’m not pregnant. I think I’m still pulling off the fitted look just fine at 7.5 months pregnant, but not sure how I’ll feel in another month. For the beach, I packed a maternity bikini, maternity tankini and several non-maternity bikinis. We’ll see how much use I get out of all of them next week.

WORKOUTS: I didn’t post a bump update last week, but I squeezed in three workouts best I can recall. This week has been much less. I finally made it to the gym yesterday and participated in the group warmup of a few rounds of Cindy (5 pullups, 10 pushups, 15 air squats). I scaled the pushups to my knees, but I did regular pullups and just broke them down to a set of three and a set of two. In the past we’ve done weighted pullups and I think I made it up to 25 lbs, but it’s much easier to do them when the weight is permanently attached to your body instead of strapping on a weight vest while holding dumbbell between your legs. So thanks to the kip, I’m still able to do normal pullups in small sets.

For the WOD, I did a scaled version of 2-Minute Defense at a mere 45 lbs instead of 95 lbs, as prescribed for girls.

5 rounds for time:
1 power clean
3 hanging squat cleans
2 push jerks
200 foot sprint

Rest 2 minutes. Complete 5 more rounds.

I tried running, aka waddle jogging, the first couple rounds, but it put too much pressure on the lower abdomen since I haven’t been running in my training, so I switched it up to a fast walk. Even then, doing the WOD out in the 5:30pm sun left me tired and sweaty–in a good way. It felt great to do some lifts even with light weight instead of always doing body weight or other movements such as kettlebell swings and wall balls.

SYMPTOMS: Well it seems like it’s always something with me this pregnancy. I managed to get pink eye in both eyes that flared up last Friday afternoon, despite the fact the James Michael didn’t have it this time. I have no idea how in the world I got it–and what’s crazy is I never got it as a kid so this was my first time. I kidded James that people might think he punched me in the eyes because they were so swollen. Right as my eyes were at their worst (Saturday and Sunday), I also came down with either a cold or sinus stuff. And that’s probably why my face started to swell below my eyes and not just above them. I was a real looker this weekend, let me tell you. By now the pink eye is gone and the sinus issues are improving, which means I should be primed to enjoy vacation this weekend in Hilton Head.
