RV Adventure

One Year Later–An RV Update

Last March, we were selling our house and dreaming of a year spent full-time RVing. Today, much has changed as we realized we didn’t have a mobile online business, but one that needed stability and even commercial space. So one year after big changes began, we continue to ride the rails of change with the sale of our RV (just sold it this week!).

It’s a bittersweet moment that has once again forced me to let go of my idealized notion of grand plans for our family, and rely on Him who knows better–whose plans for my life are far greater than I could have devised myself.

So here we are, happy and mostly healthy in Gainesville, Georgia, with plans to stay and even put down roots. We have plugged back into the church I grew up in, which has changed in so many ways but still has outstretched arms for the community. Our boys go to preschool at this church, we attend bible studies at this church and we are finding ways to serve through this church. My heart is practically bursting with gratitude at the constant of this church despite a year (and counting) of transition.

We are still living in my Grandma’s old house and have talked of buying a small house (with a big yard) when the timing is right, ideally in the next year. It won’t be an easy process, considering mortgage lenders don’t look favorably on new start-up companies and have told us our only option is to purchase a house with cash. So we are liquidating what assets we can (hence the RV sale) and saving to buy a fixer upper that we can renovate as we go. It’s exciting and overwhelming all at the same time.

Honestly, we don’t know just what the future holds, but as hard as that is (especially for a woman), we are doing our best to enjoy where we are living in proximity to family, planning where plans can be made and letting go of everything that is up in the air.

I'm a full-time wife and semi-stay-at-home mom to four young kids. Day to day, I help my husband with his small business, but when I have any extra time, you can find me cooking or being active outdoors with my family. We live at the foothills of the North Georgia mountains and are embracing modern homesteading month by month.

  1. So exciting to read your updates. Sure do miss you! Did you already sell the RV or is it currently for sale? I’ll pass it along to someone that might be interested if it’s still for sale!

  2. It is so hard when the plans we have and make for our family just don’t go how we planned. I know this because we are still living in our “starter home.” We listed our home twice last year and only received one lowball offer after having it on the market for a total of 1 year. Our house only has 1 full bathroom and a 1/2 bath in the basement. It’s and older home too. We had plans and hopes of a quick sale and to already be mostly done with or into our newly built home on family land down the road. But we did not want to start building without having this home sold for many reasons. So now we are on plan B. It’s hard to explain to others why you aren’t doing the thing you had told them all about that you were so excited about. I know it’s very humbling but there is usually a silver-lining when our plans don’t work out. For you I am so glad you got plugged back into a good church. Having a great community to depend on is so priceless!

    1. I feel you April. It is hard but you are right–there is always a silver lining and usually a purpose far greater than what we can think of. And you’re right, when you publish lots of details about your life it’s hard when you have to come back with your tail between your legs. It sounds like more than just my family is in the transition phase!

  3. I hope you get a new header and keep blogging about life. On the road or not, I like following along with what your sweet fam is up to! <3 Keep on rolling (figuratively speaking ;))

    1. Oh yes, I will still be around. Blogging is so therapeutic 🙂 Just removed the RV from my header but I think it’s time for something different altogether–to commemorate change!

  4. Hello! We are a family of 5 (3 small children as well) looking for a fifth wheel. Any chance you’re selling your rig?

    1. Hi! We actually sold ours before I posted this blog post. But it was a great rig for three kids, though it was very long! It was a 2012 Forest River Sandpiper 365SAQ in case there are any other models on the market.
