There Goes June—And Half of Summer

And just like that, June is gone. We’re halfway through summer break and it has flown by so far. In my mind, I had this picture of a long leisurely summer, but it has been quite the opposite. We’ve been on the run for weeks now, and the only slow mornings we can savor are on Sundays.

Here’s what we’ve been up to so far:

We spent a long weekend at nearby Lake Hartwell with extended family. It was much easier than a beach trip and very laid back, but so nice for my kids to spend time with cousins.

We’ve also ping ponged more sickness (strep throat, another stomach bug, allergy colds with random vomiting) than I ever thought possible in summertime. Hoping it has simply boosted our immunities for the fall.

My big three have rocked it at lots of fun camps: art camp, volleyball camp, sports camp, ballet camp. I love these 2-3 hour half day camps! Of course, this is part of the reason I’m on the go so much.

We scooted into swimming lessons at the last minute and my boys are also taking a few tennis lessons. They have begun to LOVE all sports. It’s so fun.

We’ve tried to really savor this last summer (fingers crossed) living on the lake. Since I’m a little weary of putting Grady in the lake at this age, we’ve gone on lots of boat rides, which he loves!

In relation to our last lake summer, we’ve devoted hours of our lives to house hunting and house showings. I forgot just how much of a roller coaster ride it can be. Most days, I just want to fast forward to the end. I think that house hunting is only fun when you are window shopping and don’t actually have to buy a house 🙂

We got a summer pass to the nearby splash park and have spent many a late afternoon staying cool and letting the kids burn off some energy. Of course, every visit is a full body workout for me as I manhandle Grady.

I also spent a week teaching kids and having others pour into my kids at In the Wild VBS at our church. We were all exhausted by the end of the week but had the absolute best time.

There are so many more things I want to do this summer but it’s so weird to feel like we are already running out of time. This week, we’ve got a beach trip planned and two kids’ birthdays to celebrate. I also hope to squeeze in some other fun local attractions such as visits to the botanical garden, local library events, splash pads and maybe even a couple local field trips.

How is your summer going?
