spill it

I’ve been all over the place these past couple weeks, and the blog has taken quite the hit. So instead of actually thinking through what I write, I’m just going to spill what’s in my head.

Tomorrow is the big day we find out if Baby #2 is a boy or girl. I’m so excited to finally know, and at this point my main concern is having a healthy baby. After I find that out, I can breathe a sigh of relief and celebrate the gender. If it’s a boy, JM will have such a great childhood with a brother so close in age (19 months apart). And if it’s a girl, I’m sure he’ll be a great, protective big brother.

I’ve heard people compare house hunting to wedding planning in a way.  Besides the commonly stressful nature of both, they feel so different. Luckily, I had no reservations or second thoughts marrying James. But looking at houses, I’m constantly second guessing myself. So far, James and I seem to balance each other out. I’m the dreamer, seeing tons of potential in houses, and he’s the realist, wanting it pretty much perfect before purchase. Our conversations go something like this:

James: “Haley, what in the world made you like that house?”
Haley: “The rooms were a good size and it had a great flow.”
James: “But we’d have to replace all the flooring. All of it. The kitchen linoleum and all the carpet. And then we’d have to get the whole house painted. The whole house.”
Haley: “I know, but at least then we could pick out what we like.”

A couple weeks ago I finally wanted to see what all the buzz was about and downloaded the first season of Downton Abbey. Good thing I did, because I love it. I just started season 2 and I’m already dreading the time when I’ll be caught up and have to wait months to see the next season. Of course, at this rate I still only get a chance to watch 1 or 2 episodes a week, so I may be able to stretch out seasons 2 and 3 for quite a while.

Even though I’m not competing in this year’s CrossFit Open, I’m still glued to the leaderboard and games.crossfit.com. I’ll still attempt the Open WODs as best I can, and cheer all the athletes at our gym on as they compete. This will mark the fourth year that James and I will watch the CrossFit Games together this summer, taking place in late July just before Baby #2 comes. We’ve followed many of the athletes for years, and every year it’s been a nail biter. #can’twait #yeswe’recrazy

Spring. Just typing that made me take a slow deep breath. Though fall is undoubtedly my favorite season, spring is a close second. I’m so excited to enjoy these next few temperate months playing with James Michael outside. And of course, once we have our own backyard, it will be even better. This past weekend, he helped do some yardwork at my sister’s house. We’re training him young!

I'm a full-time wife and semi-stay-at-home mom to four young kids. Day to day, I help my husband with his small business, but when I have any extra time, you can find me cooking or being active outdoors with my family. We live at the foothills of the North Georgia mountains and are embracing modern homesteading month by month.
