Christmas Home Life

Christmas Countdown

Despite the higher-than-average temperatures this month–which we are loving, don’t get me wrong–we are still celebrating this season of Christmas even though it will be 45+ degrees warmer than your average white Christmas. Now that James Michael is nearly 4 years old, it’s so fun to see how he is beginning to grasp the Christmas story and even teach his little brother. Last week, during some imaginative play time outside, he told me he was traveling to Bethlehem…on a donkey. Be still my heart 🙂

As we are counting down to Christmas, here’s what we’ve been up to celebrating the season. We have…

2015 Dahlonega Christmas Parade

…attended the Christmas Parade in Dahlonega with Meme and Poppy (and the Rowdy boys were amazed that people actually threw candy at them from the floats. It was almost better than Halloween!)…

christmas collage 1

…enjoyed Elf on the Shelf shenanigans, put up super simple baby-proof Christmas decorations, donned matching Christmas pajamas, sipped hot cocoa…

2015 santa pic

…sat on Santa’s lap (amid obvious protests), read Christmas books, drove around to see neighborhood Christmas lights, watched classic Christmas movies such as Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman…

2015 christmas collage 2

…mailed out our first-ever family Christmas card, played constantly with our kid-friendly manger scene, watched James Michael’s precious school Christmas presentation and celebrated by decorating cookies during his classroom party…

lights of life 2015

…took our first trip to Lights of LIFE, where we walked through some amazing light displays, rode the Christmas train and saw Santa and his crew working up in the North Pole…

…continued working through the She Read’s Truth Advent study, decorated gingerbread men, burned Christmas candles…

…listened to Christmas music and belted out Jingle Bells.

Also, in a span of 48 hours, we survived our first stomach bug that made it’s way through all five family members. The little guy who began the bug was the only one who was spared a trip to the ER. The rest of us are praising the effects of IV fluids and Zofran. But we are officially on the other side of this bug and ready to enjoy a healthy Christmas week.

We still have a few more items on our list as we count down the days before Christmas, including baking and decorating cookies for Santa and attending our church’s Christmas Eve service before multiple days of Christmas celebrations with family.

Day to day, I help my husband with his small business, but when I have any extra time, you can find me cooking or being active outdoors with my family. We live at the foothills of the North Georgia mountains and are embracing modern homesteading month by month.
